Buyer Beware

Another Amazon selling partner (Dr J) has been ordered to pay damages over deceptive advertising on its range of projectors. Epson tests indicated its projector measured at 300 ISO Lumens, only 2% of the advertised 15,000 lumens. Unfortunately, deceitful advertising has become an increasingly common occurrence with some lesser-known projector brands advertised through online marketplaces. Just Projectors implores customers to use common sense when selecting your new projector. If the deal looks too good to be true, it often is. Sticking with reputable dealers and reputable brands is always the safer option.

New Wanbo Projectors have arrived

Accurate Brightness Ratings

Epson has taken charge in the fight against misleading brightness claims by various projector manufacturers with recent settlements by AWOL and JmGO. Exaggerated advertised brightness ratings have become a larger problem in the industry with a recent increase of smaller brands entering the market. Formovie, Philips, Xgimi, Ankor, Vava and several Amazon brands have all been taken to court over their advertised lumen ratings.
We can only hope this added scrutiny will remind projector brands of their obligation to ensure advertised brightness ratings remain as accurate as possible.

Wanbo X5 Pro

The X5 Pro is the latest offering by the popular LED brand Wanbo with first stocks already available in Australia. It comes jam packed with features including 1100 ANSI Lumens brightness, Full HD resolution, Android 11, Chromecast, Auto Focus, Bluetooth 5.0, and 2x 5watt speakers inbuilt.

The end of the Projector Lamp?

In 2026 the European Unions ban on mercury projector lamps comes into effect, but don't panic just yet. Projector lamp supply is expected to continue as usual in the rest of the world, for the near future at least. The long-term future is mercury free though so eventually we'll see all projectors moving toward an LED or Laser light source.

NEC to Sharp

Time for a name change. Over the next 12 months we'll start seeing all NEC badged projectors change over to Sharp badging as Sharp Corporation of Australia completes its integration of NEC Display Solutions. Except for the name change it is otherwise business as usual over at NEC.
