The new BenQ W1800 projector offers accurate colour achieving 100% of the REC.709 colour standard and an incredibly detailed 4K resolution perfect for everything from movies to gaming. With HDR10 compatibility it will produce an incredible range of brightness for HDR content for an vibrant image. The fast gaming mode is perfect for even hectic first person shooter gaming. The W1800 has also been designed with the same installation point as older 1080P BenQ projectors so is the perfect upgrade from the popular W1070, W1090, and W2000 projectors.
The BenQ W1800’s pictures immediately struck us as genuinely cinematic as soon as we clapped eyes on them – and while deeper scrutiny uncovers a limitation or two, our first impressions hold well throughout our time with the W1800.
The single most striking strength of the W1800 is its colour performance. Whether you’re watching in one of the movie-friendly standard dynamic range picture presets or the Filmmaker Mode with HDR, colour tones across the board look beautifully natural, richly nuanced and remarkably well balanced for such an affordable projector.
Well, firstly it sports BenQ's CinematicColor technology, where RGBRGB colour wheels are dressed in 'rigorously tested' coatings to deliver more accurate colours, and, most strikingly of all, factory calibration reports (to Delta E errors below three) are supplied with each projector that leaves the factory.
The star of the show is the W1800's colour handling. Tones right across the board, with both HDR and SDR sources, look startlingly convincing, surprisingly nuanced, and clearly carefully tuned specifically for video playback.
The 4K Blu-ray of Kenneth Branagh's Death on the Nile adaptation presents a serious challenge from a colour perspective, with its slightly odd mix of naturalistic shots and highly stylised, CGI-heavy 'romanticised' visuals. The W1800 takes it all in its stride, portraying both the most low-lit skin tones and most vibrant Egyptian sunsets with equal conviction.
The first thing that strikes you with the W1800’s pictures is how smooth and natural they look. The Optoma UHD38 and BenQ TK700 deliver a brighter, slightly crisper image but, for cinematic visuals, the W1800 is in a different league. I tested it on a range of material using the Roku 4K Streaming Stick and 4K Blu-rays, from Marvel and Star Wars blockbusters such as Avengers: Endgame and The Last Jedi to The Marvellous Mrs Maisel, Reacher, Only Murders in the Building and Knives Out. The W1800 never faltered when it came to detail, colour, richness or depth. It’s always a good sign when I forget that I’m reviewing and settle in just to watch. With the BenQ W1800, this happened a lot.
True colors awaken feelings of sorrow, joy, romance and thrills by preserving the original image. BenQ home cinema projectors embody our belief to convey the truest color and impart the deepest emotions to the viewer. Led by our THX and ISF dual-certified engineers, the BenQ CinematicColor™ technology team delivers full Rec. 709 HDTV-standard coverage for perfect color consistency.
Enhancing optimal colors for precise picture quality, CinematicColor™ delivers Rec. 709 HDTV color accuracy, RGBRGB color wheel technology, and high native ANSI contrast ratio to unlock stunning image performance with crisp visuals and sharp details for your ultimate 4K HDR home cinema enjoyment.
Filmmaker Mode preserves motion cadence, cinematic color, dynamic range, and brightness that directors intended for the big screen. BenQ 4K home projectors support the filmmakers’ desire for home viewers to relive majestic scenes and tender moments the way they were meant to be seen.
Enjoy color accurate performance from day one, with W1800’s guaranteed 100% Rec. 709 coverage with Delta E<3*. Each projector is factory tested and adjusted for D65 color temperature, gamma, black level, white level, neutral grey, RGBCMY color tracking, hue, saturation, brightness and output based on ITU-R Rec. 709. All data is then compiled in an individual factory calibration report included with each W1800.
*Delta E quantifies the difference between a reference color and the projector’s actual color based on L*a*b* coordinates to represent "a difference in sensation." Delta E<3 performance means virtually no perceptible color difference to the human eye. (Delta E<3 performance enabled in D. Cinema modes.)
Stunning 4K UHD 3840x2160 resolution is four times the pixel count of 1080p Full HD. With 8.3 million distinct pixels for each frame, W1800 minimizes blur and displays crisp, clear video. Additionally, the new generation 0.47” single-DMD DLP technology showcases sleek, modern design to complement your viewing space.
Supercharged by HDR10 and HLG support with BenQ exclusive projector-optimized HDR, W1800’s high dynamic range performance offers greater brightness, contrast range, and image optimization in a single step, bringing out every detail in 4K video content for superior cinema enjoyment.
W1800 packs intuitive functions and beautiful aesthetics in a sleek, lightweight design. Upgrading to W1800 4K projectors is effortless, with no need to readjust your screen size and throw distance on the same ceiling mount.
*The W1800 designed with a throw ratio compatible with BenQ W1070, W1090, W2000 projectors which can share the same ceiling mount for easy 4K upgrade.
W1800 maximizes available space with a range of throw distances, enabling 4K big-screen entertainment in tight quarters.
2D keystone eliminates trapezoid effects when projecting from various room locations for ease and convenience.
Digital rotation adjustment improves projection flexibility, even on uneven platforms. More placement options help free up valuable space for active games or comfortable lounging.
