Everything about the ‘BRAVIA’ AW-Series is designed to make it easy to choose and easy to use. There are two models in the range, the entry-level VPL-AW10 and the VPL-AW15. They share many features, including a compact and stylish all-new design, 720p HD resolution and multiple inputs including HDMI™. This means both models can be connected to 1080p HD sources like Blu-ray™ Disc players and PlayStation™ 3.
Both projectors also support Sony 24p True Cinema, enabling playback of films at the original cinematic 24 frames per second, completely eliminating the speed and soundtrack distortion present in conventional cinema-to-digital conversion.
While this will please the Home Theatre enthusiasts in the family, everybody will appreciate the exceptionally bright picture rated at up to 1300 lumens. Thanks to the extra brightness the ‘BRAVIA’ AW-Series copes much better with ambient light in the typical living room than traditional projectors, so there’s no need for dark drapes and a lighting blackout to enjoy the fun.

Contrast is key to a good picture, with black showing as really black and white as pure, bright white. The ‘BRAVIA’ VPL-AW15 uses specially modified LCDs featuring a High Contrast Plate which stops light from the lamp leaking through when the LCD is blacked out. Conventional panels tend to leak light, so they end up displaying black as dark grey.
In addition, both models feature Sony’s unique and highly regarded dynamic iris control which adjusts the iris scene by scene to ensure optimum contrast. This makes sure bright scenes are filled with bright white tones and dark scenes are composed of deep blacks. The VPL-AW15 uses the very latest Advanced Iris 2 technology and is capable of an exceptionally high contrast ratio of up to 12,000:1.
Both models are capable of projecting a big picture in a relatively limited space – 80-inches at just 2.3m – which is another bonus when it comes to ease of setup in the living room. A perfect screen for the AW-Series is the new 80-inches (2m) Sony DynaClear portable projector screen which lets you watch films virtually anywhere, without the need for a large empty wall. Sony’s unique DynaClear screen material offers unusually high contrast even in bright ambient light, so you get a great picture at any time of day or night. Furthermore, it is easy to assemble and neatly scrolls back into a compact cylinder after use.
The VPL-AW15 also has a lens shift function that lets you move the picture up to a quarter of its width from side to side and over half its height up or down. This makes it particularly versatile and easy to move around. Finally, no matter where you position your projector, you need it to run quietly, which is why both models in the Series are fitted with fans that run at an unobtrusive 20dB.
